It’s hard imagining life in today’s world without a credit card. Since I cancelled my American Express credit card there’s a huge range of goods and services I haven’t been able to access. Without that credit card, I was unable to join the local gym, to order t-shirts off of the Internet, to reserve a plane ticket online - and that is just a few of the basics. Not that many years ago, people preferred cash to credit, but not now.

It’s now normal almost everywhere in the world to use your Mastercard, Visa or American Express to pay for goods or services you may not even need with money they do not have. Using your American Express credit card may be convenient but there is a cost for the convenience of paying at a later date. Credit card debt is mounting everywhere. I am not joking when I say that credit card borrowing is probably the biggest problem facing Americans today.

That is one of the main reasons why I had to cancel my American Express credit card in the first place. Once I had the power to buy things without parting with my money immediately, I was almost unstoppable. Mounting debts lead me to realize that I had been using my card for everything and anything including food! The debt became too great for me to pay and I didn’t know what to do.

To get my debt back into a position where I could pay for it I resorted to using a debt refinancing company. This is not something I ever want to happen again. There is a happy ending though because my debt is paid off and the American Express credit card has been destroyed. A lot of people would think that it is rash to blame it on my credit card, but I think that they do not understand something about human psychology.

When I had to pay with everything in cash, I would know just what I had at any given time. Like I said before you are not as conscious of the cost when you use your credit card. It wasn’t until I had spent all my money I’d realize that I had been spending it like a running tap. I no longer have an American Express credit card problem!
